After scrolling through tons of “About Us” pages online, it seems like I’m supposed to tell you I am the best table top stylist in the world and a perfect wife and mother who cooks gourmet meals every night and keeps a perfect house — all while working full-time and going to the gym four days a week.
Well, the us is really me, Cathy, and I try hard to be all of the above but fail often, and you know what? That is OK with me. Life is too short to worry about “always perfect.” I do love to keep it stylish and simple, I love to change things up — often — and love tranquility, but perfect is not anywhere near the top of the list. And I hate to cook!
To be perfectly frank, I have dyslexia and ADD, which is very challenging because it causes my brain to fire off ideas much faster than I can catch them. On top of all that, my spelling is atrocious (yes, I had to ask Siri how to spell that one), but in place of these shortcomings, I discovered I have the gift of creativity and a great understanding of space. All my life I have had to find different ways to do things so my brain could understand. The saying “think outside the box” may be appropriate here, but for me, I’m like, where the heck is my box! I struggled with this: With my unique challenges, how do I bring my ideas to this blog when spelling, the ability to articulate, and organization are so important? I decided to believe in me as much as I believe in my product, so please forgive any grammar errors along the way. My goal is that you will get real ideas and inspiration.
To tell you a little bit more about me — beyond my shortcomings — I am a wife to a wonderful man (and that is not laying it on too thick) and a mom of grown twins who are finding their way in the big city. I live in a tiny house on the beach and appreciate it every day.
My journey here to The Wired Lemon started off in a very unusual place: in a helicopter where I was a flight nurse for many years. After I hung up my flight suit for the final time, I found myself at a 9-5 desk job, which allowed me to be at the dinner table with my family every night — a ritual that was very important to me.
But I always recognized I was in someone else's “box,” so the speak. And so, I decided to take my own advice — advice I had been telling our girls since they were very young: Do what you love, and you will never work a day in your life. I took the leap and landed right where I was supposed to be: owning a successful home décor shop at the beach. I had one product that, year after year, was the bestseller. My customers loved it, and it intrigued everyone; it’s a candlestick, well, a candlestick concept. I love this candlestick. It is everything a hostess needs, and I felt like it was too good to be hiding on a shelf in a tiny gift shop. I believe in this product so strongly that I closed the shop so I could share it with the world, along with my out-of-the-box decorating ideas.
I really appreciate you taking your time to stop by, and I hope you will find this candlestick concept and my decorating ideas inspiring in your own homes. Please sign up for our newsletter so you will never miss out on the inspiration!
